Clear English
English is the first language of only 8% of South Africans - which is why much of written communication makes little sense to the average reader. Freelancers re-writes corporate and government documents into 'Clear English', aimed at the reader's English level, so that the reader can not only understand but also comply with the written requirements.
The company has been producing Clear English documents since 1996, with the publication of the guide to the New South African Constitution for Sowetan readers. Other major tasks have included the 'Guide to Formation of Water Users' Associations' for Department of Water Affairs & Forestry, 'Progress on Dense Settlements' for Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and the Department of Water Affairs and re-writing of selected By-Laws for the City of Johannesburg.
Clear English not only requires a high understanding of the concepts involved but also the reading level of the targeted audience. Gwen is assisted by a lawyer to ensure that any legal principles are not altered in the simplification of ideas, concepts, regulations or laws.
